Yeah, i know, this is not the continuation of what i promised, but, I feel the need to share this. It is simple, and short but pregnant with meaning.
Growing up, mama had her maxims. Papa had his maxims. Now i guess they are still their maxims but due to conditioning, they are somehow incorporated in my very own view as i see my world. As i navigate through this maze and plethora of nothingness until Christ shines on you called earthly life. These have have been inherently etched in my memory. It is like sitting back, rewinding every step you ever took. It may have seemed hilarious back then. I mean hilarious is not even the word, but outrageous is more like it. Here goes:
" You don't quit without trying. How do you know you can't actually do it if you have not tried it? Remember that you are in control of that which does not speak. so, are you letting the inanimate win?" - DAD. He used to say this if you outright decided you can't make it budge, or you can't turn that nut or you can't do just about anything without trying. still says it.
"Did you even pray? You seem too busy. Do you still pray? Did you pray this morning or you just jumped out of bed? Did you even read a single verse? Be careful. Do not forget that God carries you and the devil is looking for every opportunity to catch you unawares. We live in this dark world. Be careful. Don't forget your Jesus." -MOM. She used to and still does remind you of the big picture. What is it that you intend to do? Where are you scampering off to? Town? A friend's place? School? or some very far off place? Remember to pray. You ought to pray.
" When with people, do not invest yourself too much in them. Do not trust without a pinch of salt. Beware of those that are just too nice. What do they really want? Never show your emotions in public. Never hang your dirty laundry or your immediate's for the public. Just because they are smiling with you does not mean they are happy for you. You never know the real intention of the heart, Only God knows so ask him for the spirit of discernment. Do not be the person who is up and about every where, that one who knows everybody's business (heaven forbid, it does not even concern you), that one who has a penny for every thought. Do not be that person who knows not their boundaries. Do not be the person that has no secret and every Jack and Jill knows everything about you. Do not be that person who keeps a lot of company. Remember, it is biblical. There is always a Judas. There is always a pretender. Bad company corrupts good manners. Just read Proverbs. Do not rely on your own strength or mere mortals. A human being is fallible and is mortal (they fail and they die).
Say little. Pray much and do not overstep another's boundaries. Remember the bible says to do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and love your neighbor as yourself." -MOM and DAD say these things a lot. I used to ask myself why they say such things, and they said, one day, you will understand. Just remember it. Today, I REMEMBER and I UNDERSTAND.
Thank You GOD.
What do you remember growing up? How can you impact your generation and that little child who looks up to you even though you don't know it?
Stay blessed.
P.S. Cherish what is worth the while and surely remember your creator during the days when you are young. You are a custodian. Share the love of Christ...He is coming back soon.
